Dear 2015,

I’m going to be honest: I have mixed feelings about you.

You’ve brought me knowledge, sometimes forcefully so. Lessons learned, experiences endured - I’d say thank you for them, but I’m still angry about the way you gave them to me. Scars take time to heal, you know.

You’ve stomped on my heart, then put it back together. Was it necessary to step on it in the first place? Maybe so, but I didn’t like it. It was too messy. At least you cleaned it up. Sort of.

You’ve brought me moments of laughter and friendship and I thank you for those. I hold onto them, I keep them in a little box inside my memory to go and visit when I’m sad.

If I say I don’t want you to leave, don’t flatter yourself, it’s only because I’m scared of change. But sometimes change is good, and change is necessary. Growth will happen: might as well embrace it. Or at least, that’s what I’m telling myself. No more resistance. No more apathy.

I will be different once you’re gone. I promise you that. I promise.

Keep an eye on me, I’m going to do great things. // k.m. (via @perceivingwords)
